Cat pooping outside box!

I have a four year old cat I adopted when she was 2 and a half years old. Just within the last week and a half I have cought her going poop outside the litter box for the first time. She has done it atleast 10 times and it is starting to get to a point that if she keeps it up I am seriously thinking of giving her up. I would hate to do this but not sure what to do! Any suggestions would be appreaciated!
