I am sitting here watching my sweet baby boy who is a long haired orange tabby, 16 months of age, slowly fade away. He started to get sick about a month ago with an upper respiratory infection, which he was treated for with Zithromax, but did not respond to. He was looking a little thin prior to this infection, but he still had a great appetite and no bloating in the abdomen or anything else that looked like FIPS. I took him back to the vet,as he was mouth breathing. He did an x-ray and found fluid in his chest, which he extracted. He said the fluid was clear and blood tinged, not a straw color as with FIPS. Tested him for corona virus, came back negative. He then placed him on Clavamox, which after seven days he started to vomit all the time. Took him off the Clavamox and back to the vet to stop the vomiting and give him fluids. He did another x-ray, found more fluid had built up in his chest again. Extracted the fluid. Even after the fluid was extracted the x-ray still showed a cloudy mass and you could not see the lungs. He will not let you give him medication orally, not even the vet could do it. He had to mildly sedate him just to look in his throat, which had no obstructions. He has just not responded to any meds. I brought him home and he was good the first day after the fluids were drained, eating drinking etc. Two days later he won't eat has chronic diarehha and I can hear fluid when he breathes. He is breathing very shallow and I believe he has not much time left. The vet still does not know what is wrong, I think his corona virus test was a false negative maybe? I am heartbroken over this as I have rescued many feral cats, which I have had spayed and or neutered through a local TNR program, as well as drop offs. Each time something like this happens, and with all the cats I have helped it hurts just like it was the first time. It is rewarding and often times very stressful and emotional. I know I can't save them all, but I still try non the less, I love them all.
