I take a veterinary medicince for the non-scientist class and last night we discussed heartworms. Heartworms are VERY rare in cats, so much so that most vets don't put cats on heartgaurd. The bad thing is, if a cat gets heartworm the treatment will kill them and if they're not treated the worms will kill them.
