Tokays are not mainly a rainforest species. If this applies to a member of the genus then for G. smithii. These gex live a secret rainforest life.
These days the majority of tokays do live inside houses.
That became possible, because tokays by nature are an euryoek species which thrives similarily well under variant circumstances. And benefits from the abundance of insects in human houses and the absence of predators.
In their home area they can found in very humid regions as well as in semiarid areas. Not to mention that houses in big cities in south east asia have a significant different tmperature humidity regime than a rainforest has.
In captivity very high humidity has been shown to be not the best environment for tokays- they do best at a humidity between 60 and 80%.
This is related to the fact that ultra high humidity can only be maintained with low ventilation in captivity and a warm badly ventiladed place is a good place to dwell for bacteria and fungi.
So its better to not keep tokays too moist.
With respect to temperatures and temperature cycles: In their native range tokays encounter everything from 20-40°C daytime and 10-30° at night.
In some areas there is significant fluctuation over the year, in others conditions remain relatively constant.
In captivity it has shown to make sense to have a cooler dryer period in winter, which interrupts breeding and hence helps the females to recover from constant egg laying.
So 30-35° ambient daytime and 22-28° C night time temps in Summer and 23-28 ° daytime and 19-22° at night in winter is sth which I do recommend.
