Reason I ask that is of course if it's above 1 year old it may be looking to brumate. Also what kinds of lighting are you using? Higher powered lights like mvb? I use Powersuns in all my cages but in my males 3x2x2 cages I have to create a shaded part for them if they want to get out of the light totally like a cave to cool down more then the cool side would allow. The cool side in my tank in the light is 85 degrees, but in the shaded spot I made it goes down to 75 where they choose to go for a while during the day to cool off. They bask most of the time when they are awake. There both in a semi brumation state now so they are hiding most of the time, but even normally in the summer they will go to the hide I would say 2 hours out of the 14 hour light period just too rest and cool, and get out of the light.
