new RES in outdoor pond

Hi I just got two RES for my outdoor pond. I live in Burbank CA so it doesn't get very cold. The pet store said they would eat the goldfish pelets but is that enough to feed them? There are plants in the pond like Hyacinth and duckweed.



Any advice about food or other general things to keep them happy would be appreciated.
