... is that lizards eating more vegetation (iguanas, water dragons, beardeds) are not getting complete nutrition from the plant portion of their diet. They need to synthesize some of the vitamins and enzymes. UV is proven to aid in Vit. D, which is needed to absorb calcium into the body. I believe any plant eating animal absolutely requires UV for long term health. (However, I do not believe a bulb would provide much UV, but anyway...what do I know?)
Monitors eat bugs and whole animals. Rodents have calcium, vitamins, minerals all in one little package. If that is not convincing, the leading producer of CB monitors in North America for over a decade, does not use UV bulbs, or believes its necessary for monitors. Search the archives, and you will see.
Your lizard, you have to feel at ease with your decision.
