To make you even more confused, I have another method. I used the concrete primer/adhesive method first. After that dries(takes at least a week), you will have cracks in it. I filled these cracks with brown silicon and pressed coco into that. Looks great.
Also, like you, I used black jungle's method(the one you are using with the smeared silicon on dow foam), and had bad luck with it. After I brushed the excess coco off, you could see the silicon peeking out all over it...looked sorta shiny...not naturalistic at all. I recommend the concrete adhesive or weld-bond method.
