3/16" is waaaaaaay to thin.... I used a sheet as a cover for my 4' terarium and it warped in a day... even 1/4" maybe too think for that size tank, plus you have to remember the thicker it is tthe larger the surface area on the edges for it to bond... but if you are planning on building a frame 1/4" might work...
