first thought ... you said newspaper ? could it be possible what you are seeing is " ink bleed" from the spilt water bowl ?



If thats not the case what are you using for heat source? it could also be heat induced , and if not has he/she actually sat in any water for longe amounts of time as in on the cage floor etc?
