Question for you? Any and ALL replies are welcomed.
What do you use for Vitamins? Is it necessary to be completely Phosphorous-Free?
A local Vet (who is supposed to be good w/ reptiles) told me that, "everybody needed to go home, and throw away any vitamin supplements that had ANY phosphorus in it."
Since I was told this, I have only been using "Sticky Tongue Farms- Miner-ALL (Indoor mix)." This is a blend of 50 plus minerals and trace minerals and vitamin D3. The product is "phosphorus-free." Aside from the D3, there are NO other vitamins in this product. I have been feeding the dragons a mixture of Collard/Mustard and Turnip greens to get them "other vitamins."
My dragons are doing GREAT, I couldn't be happier, but I was wondering if I should be supplementing the vitamins?
I sent out emails to approximately 7-8 of the "Big-Names" in Dragon Breeders, asking what - if anything they used for vitamin supplements?
I was happy that EVERYBODY got back to me very quickly, and was friendly.
A few people said that they used the Miner-All, like me- But most of them also said that they use a mixture of "Rep-Cal Herptivite Multivitamin and Rep-Cal Calcium with Vitamin D3 Phosphorous-Free Ultrafine Powder.
Well, I checked and found that the Rep-Cal Calcium IS phosphorus-free, but the Rep-Cal Herptivite Multivitamin DOES have 2% phosphorus in it.
So, I guess what my question is.... Do we need to stay completely "phosphorus-free" or is phosphorus "ok" as long as it is given in moderation?
I know that my Vet said to "throw it away" (ANY phosphorus), but can the "big names" (SandFire Ranch, Sundial, Dachiu, and C. Allen, ect) all be wrong? I can't imagine all these other people are "out to lunch", I'm beginning to think maybe my Vet was/is wrong.
What do you guys use/think?
Thanks in advance for your input!
