If one or more of your female rats acts aggressive towards other females when she is pregnant or after giving birth, it would be better to separate her from other females stil her babies are weaned. Typically a pregnant and nursing rat female becomes dominant in a rat colony, and most respect her position. Several female rats with babies can be kept together though there is a risk of damage to the young as each mother 'steals' babies from the other, if the two mothers happen to fight over who nurses one of the babies. Their teeth could rupture the delicate skin of the babies. | ||
