I haven't wired two pieces of heat tape together, but I have connected multiple separate pieces to the same thermostat. In general, I find that there's always a difference in temperature from one piece to another. It seems to be related to how solid I managed to get the connection from wire to the heat tape. Maybe I'm just wiring it wrong? In any event, I usually wire up several pieces, connect them to the wall, and then see how hot they get. I'll pick pieces with similar temp and connect them to the same thermostat.
