Hi,
Amikacin is hard on the kidneys, my vet recommended that I never administer Amikacin in 72 hour increments again. I have never heard of anyone giving SQ fluid injections just for a precaution, but what I have done is soak the snake(s) being treated once daily in luke warm water for 15 minutes. The neat thing about this case study is that it shows you only have to inject your snake once every 10 days. Previously with the 72 hour increments the Amikacin would build up leading to potential kidney failure.
Not to mention it much less stressful on the keeper and the snake to give an injection every 10 days... I don't know about you guys, but I dread having to give injections to my snakes.
