I also have noticed alot of sarcastic comments, especially directed to new people or even people who are being rude themselves. Reacting badly to somebody's nasty post is just as bad as the initial post. If you feel any post is against the Terms of Service we much all follow for the privilate of posting here at kingsnake (and other Pet Hobbyist boards). Even if somebody says he feels a pic of a snake is not what the poster claims it is, don't assume that gives people the right to insult that person. Maybe he/she has no clue what he/she is talking about or is just being mean, don't respond with even more insults or nasty comments. Govern your own responses as well.
Though I am not perfect myself, there have been times I was nasty about a post that upset me, I now make an effort to reign myself in, bitting my fingertips as it were.
I have only been reading and posting on the corn snake and the python boards here at kingsnake the last couple months. Since then, I have been shocked at how rude, sarcastic, down right insulting and nasty some people can be here. Some just take joy in making fun of little things which gives the entire board a bad feeling. I never seen this on the bearded dragon, gecko-rhacs or frilled dragon forums, which I frequent as well.
I know some just joke around, especially those who have been here longer than I. As I am still relatively new, I don't always recognized the joking fun some members do with eachother, all in the name of fun. Keep in mind that this site gets alot of viewing, many from newbies, curious passerbyers, etc. and some threads may show tensions and hostility that may not be intended. We do not want to scare people away from the owning of snakes or show that we as snake (and exotics) owners/breeders are nasty spiteful people. It still surprises me how nasty things can get here compared to other boards I frequent.
There is nothing wrong with having an opinion, but don't beat people over the head with it. Even if you disagree with somebody's comment, stat yours and why you feel its that way, instead. Also keep in mind that even long standing practices may turn out to be no longer valid. There is always more than one way to do things.
