What kind of substrate you use, or what is the "best" is all a matter of individual preference.
I use pool filtration sand which I get from Home Depot at a cost of $5 for a 50 lb bag. The uros have no problem digesting it, although I would not use if for small babies.
The "best" substrate, and most expensive, would be bird seed (without sunflower seeds!). Read more about this at Deer Fern Farms, their care sheets are very complete. ----- 1.3 Uromastyx Maliensis (Ricky, Quinn, Anna, Drusilla)
0.2 Varanus Timorensis (Zealot, Willow)
1.1 Varanus Acanthurus (Eddie, Roxie)
0.0.2 Uromastyx Aegypticus (Kronk, Yzma)
0.0.2 Ceratophrys Ornata (Mojo, Jabba)
0.1 Geochelone Carbonaria (Turtle)
1.0 Rhacodactylus Ciliatus (Smeagol)
