They just know it is time for them to brumate. For a partial brumation, I cut down Ra's daylight hours to 9 hours and I will cut back on one more hour shortly. These shortened hours give the uro the impression that it is indeed time to take that long winter nap. I still offer him food when he's hungry but he won't eat much at all. He still comes out to bask every now and then (and do his business as well). I didn't put him through total brumation because he is still young and I want to make sure I'll get it right the first time. Plus, total brumation is kind of risky if you're not sure how to do it. Just cut back on the hours and don't worry if your uro is sleeping a lot, it's normal for this time of year. He'll perk up again when Spring comes around. | ||
