sexing malis

so i have had my mali for a little more than a year and its color really hasnt changed at all. The yellow on its back is a little deeper and that is it. It is about 9 inches now and when i got it, it was probly about 8. i have looked at the pics online of the different sexes and it definately looks like a female but i have also read that really there is no way to tell because there are male mimic females and vice versa. so i would like to get him/her a partner but if im not positive on its sex what should i do? is there any sure fire way to sex it? any help or ideas would definately be appreciated.
