UGH! I sympathize with you! FF are attracted to the yeast from rotting fruits - not the fruit itself. FF cultures have yeast in them, thus the attraction. FF eggs and larva can come into your home via the way of store bought fruit - bananas are big culprit! The ff lay right in the skin of the banana. Ever wonder how they appear overnight??



Interesting to know...that must be why they are not as attracted to fresh fruit.





It's possible the ones in the house are not from your cultures in the garage but may have come in on produce. I wouldn't put them in a closed cabinet or anything or you will moldy culture pretty soon. Got the A/C going down there?? Put them in a cool room to slow down their cycle. Are these the hydeii or the little guys. I assume these are for the leaf chams? maybe you can temporarily switch from the ff to pinheads or something - baby silkies?



Well, the actual flies are not from my cultures, but my cultures are attracting the wild fruit flies which fly into the house occasionally when we open the door. I see them in my car too because my car is in the garage. These are the Hydei...and I just got them culturing so I don't wanna not use them...LOL! It's the only thing I can continuously have on hand and not have to worry about reordering all the time. They are also getting 1/8" crickets too. I'm waiting on some baby silkies...but we know how fast they grow...hehehe.



Is your kitchen right off the garage? I ask b/c once I moved them upstairs (away from the kitchen I had less of a problem. Another thought...are you keeping crix? FF will have nice place to cycle if you are feeding the crix fruit!

Yes, I had to start only feeding the crickets the cricketfood.com gutload because the fruits and veggies would go bad so quickly that I soon had more fruit flies than I did crickets...LOL!



Thanks for your input...I think I'm gonna bring them in the house and hide them from hubby.
