Keep them in the room that is finished. Have the window open a crack (i know, it's cold out, turn the heat up, it'll only be for a week!) and have a fan circulating the air. This shouldn't hurt them. It won't be great for them, but a week won't kill them. The kinds of paint you would have to be extreemly careful with would be spray paints or other paints with toxic fumes. Is it acrylic paint that you are using? If it's waterbased you should be fine.
