No. They can get the shavings lodged in their mouths/throats and basically choke to death. Either use something very fine (soil works too) or use newspaper.

It might be the type of baby food you're giving her. You didn't mention what it is, so I don't know what to tell you.

You're not telling us the size of the geckos or the crickets. The crickets may be too big for them to eat very many of them, or they might be too small for them to really pay attention to. Also, it may be the temperatures. If it's too cool or too warm, that can affect their eating.

They may. I know people that do give them water and people that don't. Personally, I've had plenty good enough results without providing a water dish.
