Last night at about 11 I got a call telling me about the pet store that I work at was on fire. I didn't really think much of it because they didn't seem to be so anxious to tell me. Once I went out there I noticed that I was horribly mistaken. A light fixture that had been left on, shorted out and caught fire in our puppy room.
We lost at least 80% of our animals and about half of the merchandise along with our 18 year old store pet Double Yellow Head Amazon, Pedro. We salvaged as much as we could today, and picked up any animals that were lost in the fire. It was just so heartbreaking to pick up a dog or bird that I had been playing with just the day before.....I just couldn't believe it.
I did find this morning a little survivor though....a little cornsnake that we are calling Survio and he will be a store pet for the new store that we hope to establish as soon as we can. A few employees and I are raising money now to buy my boss another Double Yellow Head as well.
This was an extremely hard day for me and I just want to tell everyone to enjoy their animals and I hope that this never happens to any of you. I am sorry for anyone that may have to go through this in the future.
Keep us in your prayers. Thank you.
Luke
