for most movies, comercials etc. that isnt' actually a documentary about the native wildlife, most would use any reptile that isn't dangerous to the cast or crew, easy to handle, and easy to get. Also, is alot easier to ensure no harm befalls it. Safety is always the main priority in filming..safety for the crew, cast and the animal used is considered. No point putting in venomous snakes in a jungle scene if it bites the actors and puts them in the hospital for a month. Production company would lose more money that way, maybe even the actor, delays in production etc..when a corn or king snake would do just as well instead of a coral snake. Anybody with some knowledge of animals etc would spot it as being out of place...but the majority of people wouldn't know the difference.
