My two cents would be to use wood for the cage with a glass front. That being because plastic(acrylic) scratches very easily and monitors are very active with big claws! I don't know if polycarbonate is any more scratch resistant then acrylic, but it might be worth looking into. Those would be my two choices of material for building a monitor cage.
