there are some cages made of a metal frame with all of the sides made from heavy screen.i believe that they are marketed for chamaelons.
if your handy then there is no reason you couldn't make your own.think about it.a cage is just a glass/plastic/melamine/wood/screen box.try making a frame from wood or pvc.cover it with plastic screen or plastic hardware cloth.make a door.voila!
on the other hand,outside herps can be easy meat for cats,dogs,racoons,neighbor brats,fire ants,& etc.
