Just a side note.



Think of it as short hand. That is basically what it is. If you were running a zoo or a large breeding operation, you wouldn't want the clutter or bother of using/writing male, female, unknown a million times. It would be a lot easier to list the sexes this way along with the species name.



For instance, you could write:



1 male L.p.pyromelana

2 female L.p.pyromelana

3 unknown sex L.p.pyromelana



or you could write:



1.2.3 L.p.pyromelana



Both represent the exact same thing.



If you had a lot of animals, which method would you prefer?
