Hi everyone,

My boyfriend bought me a captive bred female Indian uro for our anniversary, since I liked the one that had been mistreated in the pet store - who changed how they cared for theirs in some ways. She is very pretty, but very scared of people. I had her checked by the vet and they said she was healthy, so after 2 weeks of quarantine I introduced her to my malis. All three love each other, and sleep and bask together. Unfortunately she is petrified of people, even after being with me for 3 weeks now. Everytime I walk past their cage she goes crazy and dives for cover. When I take her out, she sits in my hand breathing very hard, and sometimes walking around...but she won't smell anything! How is she going to get to know me if she doesn't smell me and know it's me everytime taking her out? She isn't aggressive towards me or the other uros, just very, very scared. Often times she closes her eyes and "plays dead" until I put her back in her cage, where she darts under a log and stays there. If she's captive bred, why does she act like this? Unfortunately she didn't come from a "reputable" breeder (like deerfern who didn't have any Indians) but from a person in CA who said she was captive bred....I hope she is, since I hate to seperate her from her uro friends, they seem to be the only comfort she has... Any suggestions on what I should do?
-----
