Epoxy is fine. I know of at least three different types of very nasty epoxy that have been used to seal plywood aquaria. In every case the aquaria have held water for over 20 years with no apparent toxicity to the fish or marine invertebrates housed in them.



If epoxies are not toxic (when fully cured, of course) to marine fish and invertebrates, I doubt they'll be toxic to a tegu.



Your only question then is what epoxy is durable enough to withstand the scratching of a tegu. Fiberglass resin (a type of epoxy) has been used with monitors as has one of the Bondo epoxies.



I used envirotex in this cage but it has not been exposed to scratching. I think it would hold up pretty well and it certainly is much easier to work with than the above mentioned ones.



Since it is easier to work with and cures quickly I suppose repairs would be easy if your animal was able to scratch it up.
