Fire-bellied toads are a lot of fun to keep. A 29 gallon aquarium gives you a good amount of room to play with. Simple stream side and shore line setups work very well for fire-bellied toads. If you would like some advice or suggestions about creating one feel free to email me at devin@amphibiancare.com

Keeping a fire-bellied toad with a fire-bellied newt will not work for three reasons. The most important one is a preffered temperature difference. Fire-bellied toads do best when kept between 72F and 78F during the day. Fire-bellied newts on the other hand need to be kept cool to live long, never above the low 70's for long periods of time. In order to keep both animals in the same cage you would have to compromise at least one of the species care. The second reason is that both fire-bellied toads and newts are poisonous. When they feel threatened they will release their poison which could contaminate the water source in the cage. The third reason is pretty simple, a hungry fire-bellied toad would not hesitate to eat a fire-bellied newt. For more information about mixing species have a look at www.amphibiancare.com/frogs/communitytank.html Good luck,

>>Hey! i am looking to build a new habitat for my fire belly toad. i have a new old (yard sale) 29 gallon hexagon (sort of house shaped, except with a flat top) aquarium with a nice stand. It has a lid, and heat light and everything, no leaks, freshly cleaned. I would like to put in my toad (who loves water) because he cant get so much water in his current home. any ideas? also, do you know if a fire belly newt could live in here, too? THANKS SO MUCH
