You can buy a nice 3 gallon cool mist WITH a humidistat at home Depot for around $45. The humidistat is great because you can set the desired humidity and it will hold the room at the desired "percent" of humidity. The cool mist uses "wicking" action and a fan rather than the electric method of the warm mist. We do tend to wear out the warm mist quickly because they are not designed to run as long as we run them, day-in and day-out. You will start getting mineral build up which will slowly decrease their efficiency and you will have to constantly clean it AND refil it daily. You shouldn't have those problems with the cool mist.
I have all of my cages connected by Big Apple's misting system and have been very pleased. It is a cheaper system but the end result is that the cages get misted regardless of which system you get. The only drawback is that you can not let the resivour run dry. If the pump runs for an extended period without water, it will burn up. I run my misting system in one minute increments three times a day. With that schedule, I have to refil the resivour about once a week and if it does go dry, one minute is not long enough to burn up the pump even if it does go dry. I have been very satisfied and the unit was only $99.
