I bought an adult Mali uromastyx about 8 months ago or so...and he was REALLY skinny when I got him. I fed him alot of food, and he fattened up, and hasnt lost any weight. He eats GREAT, he walks around the cage ALOT...interacts with the other 2 uromastyx he is with. Every thing about him is great, except for one thing! He walks around most of the time with his eyes closed. I have checked his eyes, and they seem perfect. He does open them occasionally. I did make the mistake of keeping him on sand before, but I took it out rather quickly. And after that is when he started doing this. I cleaned his eyes out just to make sure.

But he still does it. Nothing else seems to be wrong with him except this. Anyone have any idea what this might be? He doesnt seem to be blind, he opens his eyes and will follow movement. No infections that I can see.

Is he just being too lazy to open them?

Im puzzled. Hes a great lizard, but because of this, he doesnt show any interest in the females or breeding. So I may as well just consider him a good pet and not a breeder.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Ps..he has been doing this for well over 6 months now, hasnt shown any ill effects from it.

Thanx,

Crystal
