you have to determine wether the snake is healthy you can do so by checking if its alert. it should tong flick lots. it should be nice and fat and have no skin hanging loose you;ll see folds in the skin
ask the sales rep when feed day is and ask if you can come in and watch it eat
once you've seen the snake eat and its fat and alert with lots of tong flicks buy it!!
thats just my advice and its worked for me in the past
i have one corn that I bought from superpet and its doin very well
the down side to petco snakes is that the staff often has no idea what they are talking about and can live in poor husbandry conditions
fortunatly you have this forum and you've read up on what they need so you'll be just fine
my suggestion is to GO FOR IT and enjoy your new snake
