"Also are the reflector/clamp lamps the same thing as a regular household desk lamp? Or do they direct more heat"



What kind of bulb are you using? Desk lamps are usually only rated for 60 or 75 watt bulbs. You risk overheating the fixture and causing, at best, a burnout ,at worst, a fire. I would get a ceramic clamp fixture for safety. (Sorry, husband is an electrician and we are very concerned about such things He inspects my herp enclosures WEEKLY to make sure they are "up to code )
