I don't really know about the ventilation - I have a screen top on the entire 80 gallon tank. It's really a big pain in the patoot. If you can get a front door, I say go for it. It's better for the uros, too, since they think I'm a predator coming for them every time I need to fetch them out. Just give yourself enough of a lip at the bottom so your substrate doesn't come spilling out every time you go in.
If you're going for smaller ventilation area, you might think about two on the sides - for cross ventilation without letting most of your heat escape. I also have an air filter running in the room all the time to stir up the air since the door is closed all the time. A ceiling fan or table fan would work, too. ----- Torey
