All the reptiles we have that came from Europe, entered into Europe and the US legally.



Germany is the leading area of the world to study hepetology outside of Australia, so they do have more species and access to more than other places, for that reason, not smuggling.



Actually, the smuggling route is through mostly Dutch colonies and Indonesian owned islands, as they are easy to move through those located near Australia, so more enter through the Netherlands and Southeast Asia illegally, not Germany.
