You should be able to see if he's eating or not by checking his dish regularly, and even though the required heat does cause the food to wilt remember there should be a slightly cooler area where he can go if he gets to warm, why not put his food there? I agree with the last message, he doesn't look very healthy to me, I have three Giant Saharans who are also youngsters and they eat constantly and are fat and active. I'd forget about the toe and worry about his general health.
