No, we supplement them with Vitamin D3 everyday and have never had a problem without using UV bulbs...we normally use a heat lamp in conjunction with a striplight that holds two 48" flourescent bulbs. Because we find the prices and capabilities of the 8.0 and 5.0 bulbs ridiculous and useless...we've never bothered to use them...instead we use high-end, bright-light, plant, grow bulbs..which are much cheaper and brighter...the fixture usually streches over 2 cages...I'm going to pick another one up tomorrow.
