Ya i'd say thats normal behaviour seeing as you just got it. Even after 5 months with my geckos most of them still hide whenever i'm around. I've only caught Abby out of hiding twice and thats cause i came home after work and turned the lights on in my room. Nala is only now starting to bask outside of her hide and Bronx will only come out after i put in mealworms but even then he waits a while and will hide if i come close to the tank. Dot, Boo and Lily move around their tanks whether i'm around or not and they bask out in the open 90% of the time. Dot just flipped her humid hide upside down and now hides inside under the paper towels but she still comes out alot and will sit in her dish when she wants food.
Even after your new gecko becomes accustomed to the new environment it may still hide moreso than your other gecko. Each one has a different personality so while one feels ok sitting out in the open the other might just prefer to be inside something.

Lily: 0.1 patternless, Abby: 0.1 albino, Zoe: 0.1 reduced pattern, Dot: 0.1 hypo
