After sitting back and analyzing the data collected by others, I've decided that Ra would benefit from a diggable substrate. Whenever I changed his sand, he would have a lot of fun digging in it when it was still moist. I took this as a sign that he wants something he can dig in. I'll see if I can try to get some soil from this area but it might be quite difficult. When I go to visit my mother (who lives 8 hours away from me), she told me that I can have some of the black soil she used for her garden. That soil holds burrows well and is free of pesticides and herbicides. If any weeds pop up, they'll just become a snack for Ra. I might even try to plant a living Aloe Vera plant as a food source for him. Roots will give the soil great stability. I will also build a multi-level basking spot but I will be very creative in how I design it. Hopefully, it will turn out to be a basking spot, hide, and burrow entrance all in one. When my basking bulb finally burns out, I will switch to a halogen flood light. It's cheaper and more effective. I'll take pictures as I change Ra's setup.
