It is published that V.brevicauda is the smallest, but thats not entirely true. The published shortest SV lenght, belongs to V.kingorum. But those little fellas have a long tail. As opposed to Brevis having a short tail.
In reality, there are several small monitors that can claim that. For instance, some populations of Caudos are very small, in that 8 inch range. As well as some populations of Brevis are much larger, in the 12 inch range(nw part of the range).
If your from the states, then your choice is V.caudo, as thats the only really small monitor availible here. At one time, V.kingorum was availible, and I hear it still is in Europe. Good luck. F
