I have a newly acquired baby BW, born July 2003 at Agama. When I got him in December, he was of course in a hibernated state. He has come out a couple of times (once I saw him and the other times I noticed signs of activity, like dug up substrate and substrate in the water, and once I saw feces). I have left food for him, but it dries up and is not eaten. It is going to start getting warmer here soon (Louisville KY), and the days are already getting longer. I provide a temp gradient from 95 degrees to 85 degrees, with a 120 degree basking spot, and his hide box is kept moist all the way to the bottem of the enclosure. I check it daily to make sure the whole thickness is moist. My worry is that I work from 8 am to sometimes 8 pm, and I am afraid he will start becoming active soon, and I may not see him, so I will not be able to feed him out of his enclosure like I had planned. I also worry about him just being out of hibernation and hungry, and I just want to make sure I know how to make him comfortable when he wakes up completely. How long will they be active during the day? What are the chances of him being active while I am gone and going back to sleep before I get back in time to see him? Can anyone give an approximate date as to when he will wake up given my location and his housing conditions? Please help!
