Red/Black Marks on Scales

My son's ball has developed red lines around the lower rim of some belly scales. Does anyone know what causes this? ..and what to do about it? I think the humidity has been too low lately, and this is being rectified.



I have a pretty good picture of them, but I don't have any space on the web on which to put them. I'd be happy to e-mail the pic to anyone who would like to see it. The pic is only 36k.
