It wasnt pointless. Your geckos will learn where the food is and what the food is. My geckos come running out now when they see me fill the dish. It took a little while. If i remember correctly, you've only had yours for maybe a little more than a week. Give this some time. It doesnt happen overnight. I know its tough but your going to have to build up a little patience.
