Hi, Lucien. In answer to your question, I would say, as many as you can get. I breed my own meal worms and waxworms to make sure I have all sizes as needed. I move every beetle I can to the new laying/hatching bin. I never heard anyone say they had too many worms for feeding, but I have heard people who don't have enough!!
Waxworms are another fun one to breed but more of a challenge. You have to cature the moths to lay more eggs. If you are interested, let me know, I have a great how-to sheet.
