I have a broken striped newt which is a closely related newt to the spotted newts and he has been with me for several years now (5 mabeye6) and he is so dang hardy i can't believe it, i feed him 3 times a week and he eats what he wants and dosen't look overweight. just what i can say about your questions because i have no more answers.srry
