Wayne, we use to come across them frequently in many parts of NY State. I am not aware of where you are located but a few places within 2 hours of NYC would include the Ellenville and Mountaindale area as well as most of the Bear Mountain State Park area. If you do plan on collecting a few I would strongly suggest finding out if you are permitted to. There was a time when they were frequently encountered with the areas of the known densites of rattlers but most of those dens I hear have been vandilized and for the most part destroyed.



Goodluck in your search as seeing herps in the wild is a SIGHT to see but one that is becomming rarer every day. Keep us posted on your progress and feel free to e-mail me any pics of your sucess.
