A pine box would be fine. Pine is not nearly as bad as ceder, some people have used pine shavings for 10 years without any apparent effects, while others have not been so lucky. I have never heard anyone complain of problems from a cage made from pine plywood. A coat of sealent should be enough to keep any possible pine oils away from the snake.
