Requiem for Mr. Lyle



My sweet friend Mr. Lyle passed away this evening. 5 years ago I rescued him as a young juvenile. He was at a pet store that was giving him no UVB, and he had already developed MBD. At his first vet appointment his bones didn’t even show up in an X-ray.



With the help of people from this forum, we helped Mr. Lyle develop strong bones and brought him back to good health and happiness. But his crooked back and tail gave him “elimination” problems for his whole life. We worked with him and loved him, and he loved us for five years.



In late Fall he stopped eating. We did everything we could (with the help of his very skilled exotics vet and even the internationally respected specialists at Florida Veterinary Specialists hospital in Tampa.) In the end, all we could do was make his final days as comfortable as possible.



My husband and I were both home sick this last week. It was a blessing because we were able to spend lots of time with our little friend.



Mr. Lyle was my first non-mammal animal companion. I did a ton of research before we adopted him, but I never could have guessed that we would fall so much in love with him. I love him no less than any furry critter I’ve ever known.



Eventually we will probably bring home a new baby, but I just can’t imagine that he will be as wonderful as Mr. Lyle.
