Is it absolutely certain that the firebelly layed the eggs, not the Cali? How long has the friend had the firebelly? Newts can store sperm for some period of time (I have no idea how long), so it's possible the eggs could be fertile. I have no idea what induced the egg-laying.

Now there are eggs all over the place. I'm sure they couldn't be fertilized or whatever, but what influenced her to lay the eggs?
