Bulb or no Bulb?

Does the cage and snake really need a bulb? I plan on just getting an undertank heater for my 20 gal. I might get bulb just so I can see him better, but do I even need that? because I have a big sliding glass door which puts in a lot of light and my overhead light...so I was wondering if I even needed one for seeing it better.
